THE BENEFITS OF A FACIAL MASSAGE

From a little girl i was always surrounded by glamour, beautiful singers and actresses, coming from a showbusiness family but how do these girls stay looking youthful and how does their skin look so clear without wrinkles and stunning?

Well in my opinion it is having a beautiful canvas to work on. Like a painting

really!  If the skin is in good clear condition and well nourished whatever you put on top will be radiant, in fact very little makeup is then needed!

There comes a point during most facial treatments where you’re lulled into such a blissful state of relaxation that you naturally doze off for a few minutes—but you’re still reaping all the glorious anti aging benefits. Just like the rest of your body, facial muscles require exercise to keep you looking younger.  I have been a beautician for many years and have previously worked for Selfridges Salon in London and The Cumberland Hotel Marble Arch on lots of celebrities, magazines film and TV and I would like to offer you my expert insight on how to maximize the anti aging benefits of your facial treatments by incorporating regular massage into your daily skin care routine (and yes, it really is wonderful and doesn’t take long!).

The Benefits are:

  1. Relieves tension
    When the muscles on your face tense up, they are more likely to harbour wrinkles, which is why they need to be massaged out regularly. It only takes is 1 to 2 minutes per day. However the length of time for a facial massage required depends on your skin type. For oily and acne-prone skin, it’s best to keep it to under 10 minutes. If skin has a normal to dry complexion, no longer than 20 minutes is necessary (too much stimulation can lead to breakouts).
    Employ different techniques: try soft tapping and pinching motions—don’t pull at the skin—starting from the inside of the face and working your way out. Always massage in an upward circular motion. “You want to work against gravity so that everything goes up!”
  2. Increases circulation
    Just like how you would massage a tender shoulder or back, your face muscles require the same TLC. Increase blood and oxygen flow to the face by massaging the soft lines around the mouth, eyes and brows.
    Always use upward strokes. Massage the neck and décolletage area, gently working toward the forehead and tending to the pressure points along the way. Be sure to concentrate on the delicate skin around the eye area with gentle circular motions. And after stepping out of a hot shower, splash cold water against the skin—the contrast also helps to stimulate blood
  3. It’s a natural facelift
    Stimulating the face muscles with regular massage helps to bring oxygen to that area—which is a natural form of anti aging skin care in itself. More blood flow to the area increases collagen production, which gives a healthy and natural glow to the complexion.   Massage allows face products to absorb better into the skin. Increase the effectiveness of your facial treatments by incorporating a massage into your at-home skin care routine.

SO WHERE DO I START?
At night, cleanse and tone your skin and massage. Start across your decolletage from your left to right going around each shoulder with a little bit of pressure. Then upward strokes on the neck again with a little pressure. Up each side of the face one hand after the other, across each side of the forehead left to right, around the mouth with a finger and around the eyes with your 4th finger, working inwards to the nose and a tiny bit of pressure on the inside edge of the eye near the nose pressure point. It only takes a few minutes and makes an enormous difference to your skin. You only need a little oil, possibly a 10p piece amount of oil. Warm it in your hands, by placing the oil in your hands then rubbing them together, and off you go!! The warmth helps the product absorb more easily into the skin.

You’ll look younger!
Depending on the condition of your skin, your age, skin care goals and budget, regular facial treatments—that incorporate some form of muscle stimulation through massage—work in combination with daily skin care to improve the overall appearance of your skin: anywhere from once a month (for normal to dry skin) to every two weeks (for combination or acne-prone skin) is recommended.   I offer wonderful facial treatments at a competitive cost and always include a relaxing, beneficial and fantastic massage.  Massage is my passion as I know the benefits.

I always mix my own oils using a carrier oil like almond oil and adding in a few drops of rose and a few drops of calendular for a dry skin and for an oily skin instead add to the carrier oil a few drops of lavender. For a sensitive skin you can just massage with the carrier oil or add in Neroli or Chamomile. There are companies that sell oils already mixed and the one I would recommend is Aromatherapy Associates.#
